Miami Bound for the Sydney Cup

Group One winning mare, Miami Bound, made her claims known for the 2021 Sydney Cup with a slashing 7th in the Australian Cup on Saturday finding trouble in the run at the top of the straight.

Winning the Moonee Valley Cup last year as well as the Kennedy Oaks the year prior, Miami Bound’s best has been competitive at the top level.

Sydney’s Autumn carnivals have been plagued with wet tracks over the past several years and Miami Bound will be suited up in Sydney no matter what surface condition is presented on the day.

Trainer Danny O’Brien told SEN (https://www.sen.com.au/news/2021/02/04/the-obrien-horses-set-to-have-a-big-impact-this-autumn/) back in February that Miami Bound was on a path to the Sydney Cup.

“We’re looking to hopefully get her up to Sydney as well.

“She loves the wet tracks. We’re more likely to get them up in Sydney rather than here.

“She’ll kick off with one or two runs here and then up to Sydney, aiming towards the Sydney Cup.”

Miami Bound on Saturday was last with 400 metres to go and was the noticeable closer in the race recording 23.00 for the final 400 and 11.68 for the final 200m, 0.28 seconds faster than the next best last 200m split in the race. Impressively, this was the equal 6th fastest final 200m run on the way, equal with the likes of Group 2 1400m winner Lightsaber
